MPs vote in favour of government’s new tier restrictions

MPs have voted in favour of the new tiered system to come into force in England.

It was backed by 291 votes to 78, meaning the new restrictions will come into force in England from 00:01 GMT on Wednesday.

Under the plans, more than 55 million people will enter the two toughest tiers.
