A Montreal police spokesperson said they were first alerted to the shooting when several calls were placed to 911 at around 5:30 p.m. to report the sound of gunfire near the intersection of Dagenais St. and Rolland Blvd.

Minutes later, the spokesperson said, someone called 911 to report seeing an injured man near the intersection of Charelvoix St. and Lacordaire Blvd.

While police officers arrived at the intersection, they found a man who had suffered gunshot wounds to his upper body. The man was conscious while he was taken to a hospital, the spokesperson said, while adding the victim is “well known to the police” and refused to co-operate with police.

At least one spent shell casing was found at the scene of the shooting and a canine unit was sent to look for other evidence. No arrests have been made yet.
