During last week’s recyclables collection, an incident occurred where a hazardous household waste item placed in the blue bin exploded, severely injuring an employee, noted Pointe-Claire city officials.
An employee of a subcontractor collecting blue recycling bins was severely injured after a container exploded last week, the city of Pointe-Claire announced.
The employee was injured on Westcliffe Avenue on Oct. 5 after dumping the contents of the recycle bin in the truck’s body. When he activated the mechanism to compress the truck’s contents, a closed container then burst under the pressure and splashed a corrosive liquid into his eyes. Some residents immediately came to his aid by lending him a garden hose for him to rinse his eyes and later an ambulance transported him to hospital.
